Doggone Safe! Mission Statement...
   
To promote education initiatives for the purpose of dog bite prevention and increased child safety around dogs and to provide support for dog bite victims.

Many of these originate from a Coroner's Jury Recommendations into the mauling death eight year-old Courtney Trempe in 1998 by a neighbour's dog.  Download the jury recommendations

  • to provide low-cost educational materials for use in schools

  • to provide low-cost educational materials for use by community health departments

  • to provide educational materials to veterinarians for office display

  • to provide educational materials to family physicians for office display

  • to develop children's television programming that teaches about dog communication and dog bite prevention

  • to provide information and resources on raising puppies and training dogs in ways that do not promote aggression

  • to provide information and resources for expectant parents with dogs

  • to provide information and resources for professionals who must visit or enter the homes of people with dogs during the course of their job

  • to promote the need for trauma counseling for dog bite victims and to provide victim support services

  • to provide services for dog bite victims and their families

Find out about the Be a Tree Teacher Kit

                          To provide services not covered by insurance - such as trauma counselling, caregiver

                          support, support for communication with school and peers while in hospital.

 

                          To provide resource cards to hospital emergency rooms that provide information on the need for

                          trauma counselling, how to find a counsellor, legal rights in case of a bite by someone else's dog,

                          and help with deciding the fate of the dog that bit.
